So how do you end a day like that? As Rob mentioned in the last post we met up with some Canadian friends of Geoff's on our grocery travels - which led directly to being invited to Ed's place for drinks. Ed has a house that borders on being called a compound - a private, fenced and gated home only seconds from the beach.
We sat for an hour or so on the pool deck, talking about Canada and kids and Costa Rica while a black pup of uncertain origin lounged at our feet and a monkey or two (we're not sure) played in the trees. The pup barked triumphantly when this monkey decided to move on, but sat quietly while it was there, due (Ed thinks) to an unfortunate encounter with an Iguana in recent days, that has given it a new respect for live things it does not understand.
We headed back here for supper, a BBQ with my attempt at CR ensalada (lettuce, onions, tomatos, cucumber, cilantro and lime juice), not bad, but I didn't get the mix quite right, and a rough evening sitting at the pool and watching the kids play.
It's a tough life. Somebody quickly remind me why I live in Brantford.
