Off to Ocatal

Today was a strenuous day at the beach; hard work that needed doing. We courageously stepped into the breach so that all of you at home wouldn't have to bestir yourselves - that's okay, we'll get over it.

While it is true that we are already at the beach - Playa del Coco - the beach at Ocatal is 'better', or more picturesque, or less likely to have fishing boats anchored off it, or more popular among the locals, or something that necessitated us taking a taxi 3 or 4 kilometeres there. Oh yes; it was the black sand - fine, hot, inclined to glisten like fresh asphalt as the water drew back. There is white sand here as well - brown, really, but that's quibbling - that the waves mix with the black in ways that apparently are never the same twice. This might be true, but I would have to go back there to check, which is a hardship I am willing to endure in the name of science. Funny little sideways crabs defy gravity on the rocks, children roll about and turn themselves black and run into the water and wash it away. I had ceviche - marlin 'cooked' in the acid in lime juice, with herbs, onions and spices - delicious beyond words.
